Tuesdays with Morrie - Dependency
I don't think one can generalize about Americans being depentent on each other as a whole. But it does seem that some people are afraid of being dependent on others because of pride or trust issues. Some might be afraid to depend on others because they might be afraid of being let down by the other person. If the person is without dependency, then there is no possibility of being let down by others. The fear of dependency could somewhat be related to our country's value of independence and freedom, because most Americans follow traditional values of that sort. I do find myself depending on others, mostly for advice on how to live my so called life, and I am definatly still dependent on certain people, like my parents. I don't think it really bothers me because all people need to depend on others for some things in life.
